A love of trees is integral to Cecil's interest in landscape. Particular places inspire him and he returns to them often, the mysterious Chanctonbury Ring, for instance, has been an inspiration for a period of over forty years. As a teenage art student Cecil used to travel to such places at the weekends to draw and paint. He still does.
